There are specific events that may result in eligibility for COBRA.
Qualifying Events
For employees:
- Voluntary or involuntary loss of employment
- Reduction of the number of hours of employment
For spouses:
- Termination of the covered employee’s employment
- Reduction in the hours worked by the covered employee
- Divorce or legal separation from the covered employee
- Death of the covered employee
For dependent children:
- Same as those for the spouse
- Loss of dependent child status (turning age 26)
